Brian's FBI partner is an idiot, so he demands a childhood friend, whom he trusts. They want him to take down a local drug baron, Carter Verone (Cole Hauser). But the Feds catch him after he wins a race and subsequently offer to wipe clean his criminal record in return for some undercover work. Brian has wound up in Miami (the DVD gives you the option of watching a short film that shows Brian's cross-country flight), where he starts street racing again to earn money. 2 Fast 2 Furious Brian is now on the run from the LAPD after he let Dominic get away at the end of the last film.

Below is a look at the evolution of the franchise, which has finally come to Blu-ray ahead of the fourth and probably not final sequel, Fast & Furious. Justin Lin married the two tones with his film and brought his own culture, day-glo touch and tech edge to the picture. Rob Cohen brought a bumping techno beat and a hard edge, but director John Singleton chose a more pulpy comic tone, with rap music fueling the background of his narrative. What's most fascinating about this franchise, however, is the unique vision that each filmmaker has brought to their films.
